Razor Bumps on Nipples

Since about 10% of men in the United States trim their chest hair in some manner, it is not uncommon for the sensitive skin of the nipples to display the aftereffects of irritation. When small bumps decorate the nipple region – you may have encountered an unattractive bout of razor bumps – also known as pseudofolliculitis barbae – a common condition that strikes both men and women who shave away their unwanted hair.
Appearance
After shaving the chest or nipple region, small bumps may appear – ranging from pinkish red to brown to purple in color – depending on the shade of your skin. The bumps are “pimple-like” in appearance and are sometimes joined by redness and soreness. When infected, the center of the bumps fills with pus. If left untreated, more serious conditions may take place, including permanent scarring.
Causes
It’s pretty uncomfortable when razor bumps attack the nipples because the skin is rather responsive to any irritation that arises in this region. To lessen the chances of battling this condition – consider the following common causes listed below:
a) Using Unsanitary Blades:
Your risk for developing razor bumps or even an infection after shaving increases when you use an unsanitary blade. It is suggested to purchase new blades after two to three uses. If you have sensitive skin or are prone to razor bumps – you may want to use a fresh blade each time you shave.
b) Shared Razors:
An individual who shares razors with others can increase the chances of spreading skin infections.
c) Stiff Hairs:
Taking a hot shower before shaving can soften the hairs located on the chest or nipples.
d) Closed or Clogged Pores:
A steamy bath or shower, as well as a hot compress can open up pores for a more productive shave or unclog pores, which can lead to the razor bumps that form when hair growth becomes disrupted.
e) Dry Shaving:
A think shaving gel can moisturize and soothe the skin after a shave – making it harder for razor bumps to attack.
f) Stretching the Skin:
If you stretch the skin when shaving, you could increase the level of irritation that affects this region.
